I just recently bought a saxophone. Why buy it if I'm not going to learn to play it?
Why order the lobster if you're not going to eat it?
Why buy a great car if you're not going to drive it? What's the point?
True, it hasn't had the chance to have some good memories, so doesn't it deserve that chance? If he dropped the price, I'd consider buying it, but, to be honest, even though I just had that alternator problem and am fixing a window, my SL is in great shape (I still can't believe it's got 130k on it) and I have that emotional attachment to it that many of us get with just the right car. And, honestly, mine looks pretty close to that one. I've got different wheels, no signal light on the trunk, and there's one button in the top center of the climate control panel I don't have, but otherwise, the pics of this car looked damned close to my 380SL so I don't know that I'd need another one. Maybe I could buy this new one and keep it as a standby?
Seriously, I just do NOT see the point of buying a car if you're not going to drive it. A friend of mine was talking with me about the gullwing 300SL and I see on eBay that they sell for half a million. The gullwing is one of two other Mercedes I'd love to have, but I'm NOT going to spend that much on a car because I just would not feel comfortable driving something on the road with that much invested in it. I just would not buy a car like that, as much as I'd like to have one because I would not be comfortable driving it. (But I have noticed one can get a kit to build one!)

But it's not all his fault. I stay because I know it bugs BT. http://halblog.com
First I'd drive it, then I'd jack it up and spend another $10K fixing all the things that started to leak as soon as I turned the key, then I'd rebuild the suspension to replace all the rotted rubber, then I'd drive it some more.
On second thought I'll just keep my 78.

Scott, I can't tell on the 560s pics or on your signature but are your jack points covered with plugs?
If so, I want some. I wonder if they are the same for all M-B?
There's a guy up in the 123 forum in Vancouver who got them from the dealer for peanuts.

I noticed when this thread was "stickied" to keep the pictures available, we lost the Frapper thread. Is there a limit to how many threads can be stickied? If so, is the main goal to keep the pictures easily available or the entire thread? If it's just the pictures, I'll be glad to copy them and host them on my website (HalBlog) where I've already written up some repair procedures. That would preserve the pics without requiring a sticky thread.

There's a limit, but it's arbitrary and Ike keeps it in his head.
I guessed that the Frapper thread was unstickied because there were very few people who put themselves on the map. It seemed a fair trade.

Why? Because through trial and tribulation the work has progressed ahead of schedule. Or is it that when you replace the parts, you know what you have. But really, isn't it the feeling you have when you drive it? You can hear all the heads snapping. you can hear the ohs and ahs. Or is it just my imagination? Oh what fun it is to drive.
