You all seem to be a bunch that enjoys seeing nicely prepared 107s. Here's my contribution to the disorder for your review.

I own the green 5.0 while the brown 500 is owned by a friend of mine. The 500 is #2769 - the last 500 SLC produced. The pictures were taken on Mt. Wilson road off of the Angeles Crest Highway in southern California.

I'm just thinkin' about this...You blow into this forum and post pictures of your cars. Beautiful cars. You knew it would make alot of us feel envious...didn't you? Probably laughing about it right now with your buddy, aren't you? I hate you.
AND your beautiful cars.
Those pictures kinda make me like SLC's.

Thank you for the comments everyone.

Certainly it was not my intent to make people green w/ envy but rather to raise the profile of these cars.
They are truly a forgotten breed within the realm of MB cars in America. The 026 line represents the last
factory built race cars where the entire production and development was done 'in-house'. These cars have
what many collectors look for: limited production, racing heritage, high performance, evolutionary technology.
These cars stood at the pinnacle of a technology and stylistic turning point for MB with the implementation
of aluminum engines, ABS brakes, consideration of weight and efficiency etc. etc.

5.0 and 500 SLCs continue to pop up here and there, many desperate to find a new home. For the restorer,
I could not think of a better car from the era to take on - albeit one must do so with the knowledge that you'll
have more into the car than it's worth (at least, here in the US). But, look at what you get; they really are
phenomenal cars.

I've taken a lot of the 5.0 apart and rebuilt it (figuratively, I do what I can myself) including the engine - I broke
a piston ring unfortunately. So, I know what it takes and what you get in the end. My next project is a 500 SLC,
#2053 which I obtained from the Salvation Army in San Bernadino Ca. for $500.00 !!!

Like I said, there are cars out there desperate to find a new home. I'm just trying to plead their case and toot their horn.

That is a beautiful ride up the hill. My father and I drove up there to all the radio towers before. That must have been a nice ride. There are tons of great places to drive in california with well maintained and curvy road.

Just curious to find out how hard you drive the thing? Wouldn't blame you if you took it easy but you can't pump up "racing heritage" and high performance without putting the foot to the floor. Especially with ABS, the regular brakes are real good I've only locked mine once on the freeway with a damned woman driver in front of me. I also rock a brown slc and i'll leave you with a pic.

For a brief moment I thought the body snatchers had invaded Daryn. Then my concerns were put to rest.

Glad to see you take driving seriosly, most benz drivers don't. I cannot believe how fast these cars are once you get them rolling. I know my dad's focus can beat me from 0-60, but above 90mph the focus runs out of juice, though I have not redlined it ever. Like my motorcycle would jam to 95mph then would cut out, which is really weird feeling when you are driving that fast.

That's 677 pictured with Maurice's car. The car you are thinking of is 2053 which is presently at the body shop. 677 was 'finished' in 2005. The photo's were taken in Sept. '07. 2053 was a basket case from the day I got her at the Salvation Army for 500 clams.

There are plenty of photo's of the restoration of 677 and 2053 at my photo gallery.

I just looked through your restoration thread, thanks for the envy! I notice one of your cars had similar damage as mine to the front sway bar mount box, how did you repair it? I love that thistle green color.

I'm hoping my car isn't full of rust.

Mr.G , I just found your 2007 post showing your brown and green slc's when I was looking online to add to my downloads of 107026 pictures. I agree with your appreciation of this model ? I just cannot understand why the public and collectors arent all over this model...... Driving them surely beats a pagoda .I love the 280sl design ,but they seem so fragile to drive. Not these extended wheel base aluminum engine rally cars.
