The W113 chasis known as the Pagode or Pagoda was the successor to Mercedes famed W198 300SL roadster. W113's are highly sought after by collectors & fetch higher prices that its succesor the R107.
Will R107's ever command the type of prices that W113's do? Will R107's ever be deemed as "highly collectable"?
When the R107was debuted what were some of technological advances made? The R107 was supplied with an eight cylinder motor & the W113 had only been available throughout its production run with a six cylinder motor. It is also my understanding that the cabin of the R107 is larger.
It'll take some time for the r107s to have "collector value" like the Pagoda, but the Pagodas are not as common - 107s are everywhere. That said, the good r107s seem to be no longer depreciating and never really bottomed out at a low price after all. Get a good one, love it, take care of it, and you'll probably be able to sell it many, many years down the road for what you paid for it.

They are two different cars from two different eras wit two different styles and feels. I have both and enjoy each and appreciate each for what they are, symbols of automotive engineering prowess that balances the competing demands of sportiness and luxury.

Will the DOW hit 20K? Yes someday. When -- who knows???? Since the 113 is older and rarer I assume they will always command a higher price at any given time.

Apples and oranges. Market pressure and technology advances required a change. The 113 changed very little during it's production, the 107 changed almost yearly. The body stayed nearly the same for 19 years but all the components were in a constant state of flux.

I wonder if putting a Mr. Fusion from an '88 560 into my '81 380 would cause time distortion in the flux capacitor.
Since I own both. The 113 is just sexier but the 107 is a freeway rocket for it's time. Let me put it this way not a week goes buy with out some preety lady asking me for a ride. Note I'm 48 and uggggly.
