Becker Europa/Europa II

I have been looking for a Becker Europa II for my SL. I've looked @ a couple of sites as well as some Ebay auctions.

I've noticed that some units include a stand alone amplifier & others don't. Were all cars fitted with the amp @ the factory when the radios were installed?

If I were to purchase a unit minus the amp how would this affect sound quality of the radio?

I don't know about all of them, but my 78 came with a separate amp. It's behind/on top of the glove box.

I don't think it would have worked without the amp. Since my PO took out the original radio and put an aftermarket in, I took the amp out and threw it away.

Sorry to say this but....with or without it, it is still going to sound crap.

The braunpunk that came in the car didn't work for nothing. Go for a new modern radio with cd player, I beat the alpine. I'd get one that has a port for an Ipud or mp3 player, get new speakers also, no reason to listen a new radio on old speakers.

Back in 1985, my father's brand new 500SEC came with a Nakamichi deck - I thought I'd replace my SL deck with a Nak deck - better than a Becker.

YAY go for a new one, even the auction classics allow for updated radio systems.
I went as far as I could go w/in dash DVD w/ review camera it does make me drive slower though. But I'm much better at that . I did also buy a direction thing but I don't like the way it's suppost to be installed so I havn't had it installed (permantlly) yet.

Well, Mr. Knowitall von Smartypants, I, for one, am fairly certain that a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL C does not need a manifold absolute pressure sensor.
