I had not read it either but came in from installing an electric hoist (Harbor Freight) in the garage ceiling this afternoon and it was weird it popped up again. Going to hook up some temporary strapping tomorrow. The HT for the 560 is sitting in the back of my truck right now (don't ask) and it is supposed to rain in a day or two.

Although I know how fast the hoist lifts with either the single or double cable I'm still interested in knowing how fast it seems to lift. Slow/Fast/Just Right.... Of course I don't know why I'd like to know as I don't plan on putting on the hard top any time soon.
Also, you should know better that using "don't ask", so why's the top in the truck?

If it breaks, it needed replacing anyhow.

I used one of those HF type winches (From Princess Auto here). SEt it up temporarily just to see how it would work. That was about 1 1/2 years ago.
No further action on this project - HT is still hanging there! Don't have much use for the HT unless I leave my car overnight in a dodgy area, like at our Indy's shop.

Gonna have to put the on for this one. When the 560Sl rolled off the enclosed delivery truck in June I noticed the HT was not on it. I thought they had it stored separate. Nope, no HT. Immediately contacted the seller. Long story short, she forgot? to put the HT on. Blamed it on the shipper. The shipper picked it up about a month ago for free and it has been traveling around the US until they got close to me in BFE last Friday. I figure the HT has 20,000 more miles on it than the car. All worked out in the end.
Took an hour to unload and load a beautiful '69 Road Runner, and a BMW M5 to get to the HT but was worth it to see the cars.
No where near as nice as the custom lift bracket he made, but I don't intend to leave my top in the harness for long periods, someone donated a MB top carrier which works great, and I will use it a lot.
So for $170 bucks I'll have a electric hoist, about the same price as the manual ones you see sold on line.

Added - Oops - As always on eBay - Watch the shipping costs!
Re question about speed of winch - I have the pulley - speed is fine - I just lower top to within an inch or so of car. Locate rear pin by pushing down on back of top slightly and then complete lowering. It just clunks into place!
