1982 280sl newbie question

I recently purchased an 82 280sl from one of my customers. It has been sitting about 4 years so I anticipate a fair amount of fuel system work but cars are what I do for a living so it's not a big deal other than the fact that I prodominately work on japanese cars but I kind of like the look of this car. It has a manual transmission and wind up windows which kind of suprised me. It has rust along both doors at the moulding and around the hood badge and at the bottom corner of the hard top. My question is will the doors off of the US 380sl fit the 280sl? It would be alot easier to replace the doors than to fix the line of rust that goes behind the moulding on both doors. Also somewhat of a general question but do alot of the parts between the 280 & 380 interchange? Thanks in advance for any responses to these newbie questions and have a great day.

The 280 internal parts are pretty much the same across the line. I mean 280sl, slc, se, e, ce,. . . .don't know if doors are, but things like oil filter, and other things are the same. My car sat four year and runs fine now after lots of work.

Doors from any SL or SLC, with the exception the 560SL, will fit your 280SL. Powertrain and drivetrains aside, body and chassis parts are interchangeable save some model year or U.S. spec verses ROTW/Euro issues. SL and SLC models are identical from the front bumper to the trailing edge of the door. Rear bumper and light assemblies are also the same. Welcome to the nut house!

I am wondering, what's the difference with the 560SL doors?

They're actually the same as the doors on your 300SL as well as on the 420SL. Quite a bit thicker with different hinge fittings and lock assemblies.

Thanks for the quick and informative replys guys. I'm sure this won't be my last post. I am fully expecting fuel distributor and warm up regulator problems. I'll keep you updated on my money pit. I was once told "the most expensive car that I ever bought was a cheap Mercedes" We"ll see if thats true.

Eh, a 280 won't be that bad. You've only got six cylinders, so it'll only cost you 3/4 as much as a V8. And you'll get 4/3 the gas mileage.
