Not good news.

We are restoring/upgrading a 75' 280SL and thought this is one of those things 107 owners should know about. You can see the result of 1) a flat area next to a corner thats guaranteed to trap wet debris, 2) no underseal, you can see where it ended, and 3) no inner fender panel. I still can't believe that one. Now I know why I have those little dents from the inside of the fender. My guess is that all 107's were assembled this way so at the least, the next time you have your front wheels off reach up in their and clean out the crap. It might slow down the process. Unfortunately it doesn't show on the engine side until it's too late. Both sides are the same. I would be interested to know if any one else has this problem, especially later models.
