I have never replaced a fuel filter and would like to attempt this one on my own, but I need a little guidance. My research so far is this.
Fuel filter is located behind the back passenger side tire where I need to remove a cover. It is there along with the Fuel Accumulator. Do not confuse the way it is removed with the way an oil filter is removed. This one has a nut above it that needs to be loosened first. Remove old filter, pour fuel from old filter into new filter as this will help in the priming process, and screw on new filter. Tighten the new filter with the nut, and you're done.
Now, for the questions:
1. Is there anything I need to do prior to removing the old filter? Should I expect fuel to spill out? If so, how much?
2. Is pouring the fuel from the old filter into the new one necessary? Does it ease in the process of priming?
3. What all is involved in priming for this vehicle? Does this primarily consist of pumping the gas for awhile while turning the engine over?
4. Going with Bosch seems to be the consensus on this one, but will the fuel filter for my 500 match that of a 380 of the same year? The one on GermanStar says all models from 81 on use the same.
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I am not one to go into something blind. Thanks for the help!
