How to get a new window switch in just 12 easy steps
1) Read a thread that talks about how easy it is to clean sticky window switches.
2) Ponder the thread a few days, while you consider your sticky passenger window switch.
3) Experiment with taking the console apart.
4) Decide 'what the hell' and remove the switch.
5) Carefully take apart the switch and try cleaning it with a dental pick, like the thread shows.
6) Realize it's too gunked up and drop everything into an ultrasonic cleaner with a heavy duty degreaser solution.
7) Run three cycles, until all parts are pristine.
8) Carefully dry all parts.
9) Grease all parts for smooth operation.
10) Reassemble switch and test for proper operation.
11) Insert switch back into console, being sure to break the top plastic surround piece.
12) Buy a new set of window switches.
It's really easy. And the new switches look great.

....your repairalogues are a source of delight to us all. The more you dig in, the more I think I can live with many of the little nuances of my 450SL. Fortunately, the former owner was a German master mechanic by the name of Helmut - how could I go wrong. All the little things have been tended to. The thing that is your most valuablee contribution is that you make us all pay attention to this stuff so we never get comfortable thinking all is well. Keep them up dude.

Does anyone else have the problem of the LH switch insert for the window symbol wearing out. My switches work fine but the symbol is worn and light shows through. Too bad they aren't replacable...an interesting project would be to dig the insert out and replace it with a plastic laminated piece, maybe made with a few layers of laser/inkjet paper with laminate over it.

My switches weren't lit when I got the car, so I replaced them with the same type of switch.
