I want to know what a 380SL is "supposed" to sound like. We have one that I suspect is in poor mechanical shape but I have nothing to compare it to, and my dad's old 380SL has been out of commission for six or seven years now. It makes a loud roar that increases in volume but not pitch as one goes over two or three thousand RPM. It also feels anemic, but maybe that's because it wasn't ever very powerful to begin with.
Anyway, as it's been a long time since it ran, I can't remember if my dad's old 380 ever made the roaring noise. The sound I recall more is the slight transmission whine. Should the engine be making a roar like that?
Even better, has anyone got a recording of a 380SL in decent shape under hard acceleration, so I could hear what it's "supposed" to sound like?
