The 89 R107 300SL that was bought in December with 350 miles on the odometer is back on the market. It seems it now has 1400 miles on the clock and must have been bought for the summer. If I had bought an SL with such low milage I'd sure keep it.
What a shame this car was never really enjoyed... The real pleasure of a 107 comes with driving it. My opinion, but that and a $1.50 might buy you a cup of coffee...

You would sitting in the driver seat, lost , looking for the steering wheel.
I agree with "Ears",if you buy it for that price you can't drive it or it loses a lot of it's value,so how you will enjoy the car?
Another $1.50

Sometimes the low mileage cars are worrisome...ie: 2006-1989= 17 years. 1400 miles/17 years= 82 miles per year= 6.8 miles per month.
It's no doubt a wonderful car, but if there are any items that 'wear out' just from age, then driving it will expose new maintenance kinks to work out, right? But if you drive it, the car won't be unique anymore, right? Catch-22, right?

ulflei,
In the UK you probably could buy this car, drive it on nice summer days or dry ones at least, put a couple of thousand miles on it a year and not lose that much in terms of value. In fact if you looked after it as you should the car would still have less than twenty two thousand miles on it ten years from now and I`d be prepared to bet that the car would still be worth what you paid for it.
The `85-89 R107s are the ones to have here and as the latest edition of Mercedes Enthusiast states enthusiasts recognise that the 300SL is the one to have. (Sorry Ike)
As regards the condition of the car this one has been fully maintained in accordance with its maintenance schedule right from the word go. This included changing all fluids on time, even tyres when the originals had never been used!.
Autobarn itself subjects it`s cars to a rigorous selection process and has the car checked and serviced by Mercedes before delivery. It then backs this with a comprehensive warranty for up to 48 months.
This car is the nearest thing you could get to a brand new R107 and financially at least it makes more sense than buying a new R230.

Chris,
Would you be ever so kind as to buy that damn car already so I don't have to hear about it and its amazing handling abilities anymore?

Much Obliged.
Ike,
Who mentioned handling abilities? Certainly not me as we have an agreement on that topic! As it happens whilst mine is not quite as tickety-boo as the aforementioned it`s pretty good and I like the cream interior in mine better.
So some other fortunate will have the opportunity of savouring the 300SL`s charms.
