For the time that i've had my 450 SLC sitting in my driveway, i've read up a lot on the history of the SL's and SLC's, with most articles stating the SL as the more popular and aesthetically accepted of the two. I didn't feel to dissapointed with my SLC, i like the long cruiser look of it. And now as i was reading a newsletter from oursl they had an article by Bruno Sacco ,Director of Design Daimler-Benz AG, from the 50's into the 80's. He started talking about the 300SL of course then eventually got our models. I was taken back when for the first time I heard that "the SLC being without any doubt the more harmonious of the two".[:I] Interesting. And also "Without its coupe roof the SL is still an acceptable vehicle today, even if it is obviously somewhat long in the tooth". [:0]Wow, I've never heard the SL called "long in the tooth". But, some criticism does towards the SLC as " the interior space was not exactly lavishly proportioned". Make of it what you want, but I didn't say, it Bruno Sacco said it.

RE: Bruno Sacco said it

When he refers to "long in the tooth," I think he's talking about the long production run of the 107 chassis -- 18 years. By the late-80's, the car was indeed extremely long in the tooth, with little more than powertrain revisions.

Even General Motors completely updated their Corvette for the 1984 model year, the previous generation having gone a too-long 14 years. In both cases the technological leap from the previous model to the new one was huge. Compare the 107 to the 129 chassis, and you'll see what I mean.
