Just got my first MB last saturday, I absolutely LOVE it! [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]These cars are so AWESOME! I've owned a lot of cars, and I can see myself keeping this baby for a long time! Loved them dearly from the first day I ever saw one. Question:
The distributor has a larger vaccuum line coming off the lower part of the diaphragm, and a place on the top of the diaphrahm for a smaller vaccuum hose, which, in my case, has no hose. I wonder what hose goes on there?[?] And where it goes to? At first I thought I wasn't getting vaccuum advance to the ignition until I saw the larger tubing attached at the lower part of the diaphragm. Anyone know where that upper tubing is supposed to be? Sorry for the confusion! Thanks[:)]

The hose towards the rear is vacuum advance. It serves a useful function. The one on the other side of the advance can, closest to the radiator, is vacuum retard -- this one is for emissions purposes. If it happens to get disconnected and plugged, no one except an smog testing station will care.
Ignition timing is also set for emissions -- it's amazing the darn thing will even run at the factory setting. These cars respond quite well to additional intial timing advance.
