Tires for 1979 450SL

I need to get a set of replacement tires for my 1979 450SL. I've been advised to stay away from Michelins. Supposedly the Firestone Affinity LH30 is not a bad tire, or maybe the Dulop SP Sport A2. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

I have switched my entire 'fleet' over to Kuhmo's w/ outstanding results. Great tires that perform wonderfully and you can Not beat the price!

Generally speaking, Michelin is the best choice. The problem is the price...
If you have 14" I would recommend GoodYear Eagle Ventura. They performed very well in my SLC and were a very good deal and also the only ones I found in H...
If you have 15" I would say... Get what you find!!! Michelin are very good but they are expensive as hell!

It depends on how hard you drive.

Kuhmo does not make 205/70-R14 tires (standard on the early 450sl/slcs). I ended up with Toyos and have been happy with them so far. They are also fairly inexpensive which was good as I have needed to put a lot of money into mechanical repairs.

Pirelli also makes good tires. I've had them on my british sports cars for years.

Just a question, but what looks better on this car -- white lettering on the outside or white lettering on the inside (not visible / black lettering).

I can't decide with my imagination.

Thanks,
JL

I prefer black side out with the alloy rims, myself. They're also easier to keep looking nice. Don't have to worry about white lettering getting dirty or faded or scuffed.
