I need to get a set of replacement tires for my 1979 450SL. I've been advised to stay away from Michelins. Supposedly the Firestone Affinity LH30 is not a bad tire, or maybe the Dulop SP Sport A2. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Generally speaking, Michelin is the best choice. The problem is the price...
If you have 14" I would recommend GoodYear Eagle Ventura. They performed very well in my SLC and were a very good deal and also the only ones I found in H...
If you have 15" I would say... Get what you find!!! Michelin are very good but they are expensive as hell!
Kuhmo does not make 205/70-R14 tires (standard on the early 450sl/slcs). I ended up with Toyos and have been happy with them so far. They are also fairly inexpensive which was good as I have needed to put a lot of money into mechanical repairs.
Pirelli also makes good tires. I've had them on my british sports cars for years.
I prefer black side out with the alloy rims, myself. They're also easier to keep looking nice. Don't have to worry about white lettering getting dirty or faded or scuffed.
