The Stupidity of the American Electorate, By the Numbers

As with every general election year, all 435 U.S. Representative seats were up for grabs as Milfy so nobly pointed out (because Representatives are elected to two-year terms in case anyone was hit in the head with a lead pipe as a child or was smoking heroin that day in civics class).

The approval rating of congress in general has been at or around 10% for quite some time.

There were a total of 62 seats where no incumbent was up for re-election, due to a variety of circumstances.

That meant 373 of those congresspeople - of whom the nation approves at a rate of one-in-ten - needed to convince their (obviously quite disappointed) constituency to send them back to Washington for more...because maybe this time would be different?

Whatever they said, it worked. Instead of being sent home in droves, we - as a nation - re-elected 90% of eligible incumbent U.S. Representatives.

That's the math. We are so fucking stupid, that when you shit on 90% of us for two years, you get a 90% chance of being asked to do it again.

Everything that goes on in this nation is our own fault. End of statement. We are getting the government we deserve. It isn't Obama. It isn't Boehner. It isn't Pelosi or Reid or McConnell or any of those fucking people. It is you, asshole. It's your fucking fault. Even if you voted against your individual bum, how persuasive were you to your idiot neighbors who vote straight party? How much time did you even spend thinking about what the hell you were doing in that booth? Did you even participate in the primary process as a voter?

You can get involved and make a difference, or you can be victimized by the people who - dumbfucks or otherwise - care enough to be heard. Either way, the numbers can only be reconciled one way...and that is, we are too lazy or too stupid to spend any time thinking about why our Government sucks and how to solve it. The proof is in the pudding...we sent back 90% of the representatives who were failing 9/10ths of their bosses. Bravo, idiots.

I'm fully absolved from this math, since my district was recently created due to gerrymandering, so we elected a brand new dude to emigrate to DC and screw us over.

Note to self? (since it's so individually insightful)

That is an excellent write up if you believed there was something good that could ever come out of the american system as we know it. I don't

IIRC, my choice was tweedledum(D) incumbent, tweedledee (R), I wasn't sending a repo. My polling place has been changed 3 times in the last 3 elections and was recently gerrymandered. Ms. Warren got my full support.
I know a lot of local politicians and find that if I'm in close proximity to any one of them my head has a tendency to explode.

Ms Warren needs to find someone to take over her old position, and help them to go after Wall St.
Seeing as she's no longer able to do so.
