Changing perceptions, they hardly ever go in the right direction

The VW Beetle with it's diminutive air cooled mill for a top place win. No other car spun off it's engine into so many variations, descended applications, extraordinary possible power spectrums and downright legendary folklore as the Beetle.

If it was five, my choice is Model T, Beetle, 2CV, Mini and E Type Jag. I've owned all except the "T".

Somewhat.

I keep mulling over the list, and try to think about the cars that had the most impact on the industry.

Model-T and Beetle are without dispute.

Was the Mini the first successful FWD Transverse engine car?

Maybe the original MA/MB/CJ series jeeps?

The Chrysler minivan I have to include for starting an entire class of vehicle.

Toyota Prius, first successful hybrid.

I want to include the Saab 99 as the first successful Turbocharged production car, but not sure if it really fits, as there are many technological "first" that could be pulled from many different cars.

The rest seems to be mostly styling and performance, which make the cars interesting but not important.

Jeep? Plainly you've never owned one for longer than 6 months or ever taken it off-road...
