I know that feeling too.
201s are pretty quick, 400s not so much until you hit higher speeds. I'm assuming yours is quick off the line? My 123 was the ex's dd, the turbo didn't work and she didn't know it.
A tuned diesel produces gobs of torque off the line. One of the 124 gurus who's also a 500E maven likens his tuned '87 300D to the latter off the line and until around 30 mph when the big V8 overtakes and maintains the lead. If the bulk of your driving is around town, then a diesel is just killer for push you back in the seat fun. If the bulk of it is commuting distances, then you'll appreciate the fuel economy too. I've owned 115 and 123 diesels, and the 124 versions aren't even remotely comparable.
