The japs make a passable scotch type whiskey.

The Japanese make pretty decent single malts. After all, they have the highest per capita consumption, and own a good percentage of Scotland's distillers.

As far as blended go, try a blind tasting of 12 yr Suntory and Chivas.
After a few, I could never tell them apart.
IMO, 'Famous Grouse' is one of the best blended out there.
BTW, contrary to popular belief, in blended the age denoted is for the 'youngest' used in the blend.
