Hindsight = 20/20.

One could as reasonably argue that had we not deposed Saddam, he would have initiated covert war with the other oil states and deposed their autocratic rulers and replaced them with puppets.

It's the "if the rabbit hadn't stopped to shit the fox wouldn't have got him argument." Essentially, it's pointless.

We are where we are. Things are as they are. How should we deal with this?

One popular option is to continue to beat dead horses.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

Yes, Botnst, that's why we should wage war, over what people "might" do. I hear Argentina might hold Mark Sanford hostage. Let's attack! Of course most sensible people would say the sensible thing to do is to shore up these countries instead of letting your own kids die for your guessing games, but then again, being sensible isn't the right wing's strong suit these days...

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I was passing no judgement, and Saddam couldn't even take Iran, much less Kuwait. I will pass an opinion now tho... Iran will be viewed as a mistake if nothing changes, if it doesn't prove to be a good military base or if the gov't fails to satisfy its people.
