I don't feel sorry for those that are in self inflicted financial pain. I used to have 15 credit cards. In 2000, I counted up my debt and came to a figure of $58,000 in debt. I promptly cut up all the cards, contacted the lenders, and worked out repayment at a lower interest rate. It took me 6 years to get the last dime paid, but I did it.
I now carry 1 card that gets paid each month. I use it for gas and my morning coffee and paper...that's it. I use cash for everything else, or I don't buy it.
I like the feeling of having cash instead of having a worthless bauble in my pocket.
My wife is of a different mindset, so that's why we have 3 accounts...Mine, Hers, and the one we pay the household bills out of. There is a percentage of each paycheck we bring in that goes into the household account...and there is always about $100 left in it each month. She lives within the amount she brings in each month, and is jealous of my ability to come up with cash when needed.
I'm not a real dickhead...but I acted like one in high school.
