I used to have a 4 or 5 Coke a day habit. I switched from Coke to Ginger Ale a long time ago because there is less caffiene and sugar in them, so you can step down a bit. Then I backed off the Ginger Ale slowly. I still get my caffiene from coffee, and if I go too late in the morning I'll get massive headaches from withdrawal. But I kicked the soft drink habit and in the process lost 15 lbs. If you want to shock yourself try adding up all the empty calories in those 5 daily Cokes. I might drink one soft drink a month now.

Oh, and if that doesn't do it, ask you dentist how quickly all that acid in the Coke is destroying the enamel in your teeth - not cavities, but the enamel. The only remedy for that is dentures or dental implants.

Don't be so drastic. Dental crowns are a lot less drastic alternative if this really happened. I do not think these drinks are acidic enough to cause serious damage to enamel, or there would be widespread warnings all over by now, or these drinks would be pulled off the market.

150 cals for 12oz of Coke , x 5 = 750 cals(of garbage food)
And you haven't even eaten yet.
Pretty obvious how you lost 15lbs Jlomon.

When you only (as a normal guy) have 2500 cals you should eat daily, and 1/3 of them go to just one simple beverage, it doesn't leave a lot of room for the good stuff.

Lots of things are bad for you. Don't believe they would pull it off the market if something was wrong. It is obvious they won't. Many common health problems are linked right back to processed foods, yet they won't recall them.
Ask a dentist about the acid, also ask a nutritionist about the destruction of other things that go on with any carbonated beverage.

You're right, I forgot about crowns, which is surprising given that I have two of them. They start with a root canal so that the tooth can be ground down into a stump called a post, which then acts as the mounting point to cement the crown onto. So yes, less drastic than an implant but still not much fun. I know because one of my post/crown setups failed and I now have a permanent titanium implant in place of one of them. That involved two seperate surgeries over a 3 month period plus the return visit to fit the crown, and the whole thing cost about $5K.
