So, you're saying alcohol isn't addictive? So, according to you, if I smoke a cigar today, I'm going to crave it tomorrow? Strange that I enjoy a cigar once every week or so and I don't find myself going into convulsions desiring another. However, since you want to paint tobacco evil and alcohol as not, then you have a real problem with perception, here. I know of not ONE case where someone killed another behind the wheel of a car under the influence of tobacco.

I find it even more strange that since you live in Texas, you choose to fight against tobacco and ignore that your state has one of the highest alcohol related traffic fatality rates in the nation! In 2006, 1544 people were killed in Texas due to alcohol related traffic fatalities, a whopping 45% of all your traffic fatalities for 2006. So, for once, get off your dead ass and start championing the cause for less drinking and driving in your own state before you seek to tell everyone else in other states what they can and cannot do with tobacco.

Who said I was against regulating alcohol? In fact, you miss the whole issue here, tobacco is finally going at least become as hard for kids to get as alcohol. Of course, the bigger question, is, why is the issue even being brought up here? Start another thread. And as far as addiction goes, its a hell of a lot harder to become addicted to alcohol than it is to cigarettes, and purpose of this is not to "tell people" what they can do with cigarettes, it's to keep it out of the hands of kids.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

What I'm trying to come up with is a steak dinner and the enjoyment of making up look like a chump in the process, so I think I'll just settle for making you look a chump. FAIL this, then STFU, your highness:

Relative Addictiveness of Various Substances

Regarding cigarette vs cigar addiction. The additives in cigarettes are very much different than those of cigars. Many of the 600 additive ingredients are for flavor, many for enhanced delivery and many for trigger mechanism. They are "designed" to be addictive.

Cigars, on the other hand are not in that same category. While there are additives, addiction is not the primary mission as cigar smokers usually have already gone through that gateway. [I dated a tobacco research microbiologist for a while...too much of this junk floating in my head].
