The van is a relatively rare one-year-only special edition, and I'd exhausted all my local channels trying to find one. I also knew the signs to look out for, including:
  • One owner
  • Recently replaced heads
  • Recent AC work
  • Very communicative seller
  • Full records from day one
  • Lots of pics
  • Good karma

We had filled the nitrous tank in Tulsa, by the time I arrived in the Appalachin mountains (Tennessee/NC border) the tank was empty.

Glad it worked for you.
I wouldn't have done it. Especially having headwork done, unless the car/van was at 1/2 normal selling price or a major warranty. Anytime an engine is torn into, I back off. You never know how well it was re-assembled, and what could pop next. One mistorqued head bolt, and Poof...steam.

With repairs what they cost on these vehicles these days, a minor thing can cost everything you saved in the transaction. I do most simple work myself, and in years past used to rebuild any and everything (still do on my old toys). But at todays prices and hi tech garbage that is on these cars these days, I stay out of the engine/tranny/ and electronics as much as possible. Without a good warranty I wouldn't touch it. Older vehicles out of warranty need gone through with a fine tooth comb, for future problems, since the costs get out of hand.

But that's me, and how I do it.

Hate is such a strong word, perhaps abhor would bring to mind a whore with nice abs instead?
