We should wait and let the UN vote on a few more resolutions and sanctions against North Korea that will fix them REAL good...

For whatever reason, Kim thinks that this will in some way entrench his power in the country.
Saddam didn't stand up to the U.S. He got royally screwed by the U.S.

Kim is a complete wild card who will do whatever he has to in order to survive. This is the only thing that can be trusted about him. He is like this because it ensures his survival. The US and other involved western powers cannot run the risk of a nuclear strike against South Korea or Japan because of the impact on global financial markets and more specifically the supply chain for goods (especially computer parts) from the far East that the US is dependent upon. Furthermore China cannot and will not risk the collapse of the NK state because they know that they will be the ones inheriting all the refugees and they don't want that problem.

Kim is a tin-pot dictator who has the world by the tail. He isn't going to be letting go any time soon.

What do you purpose as an alternative?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

What do you propose? Jim wants to stick his head in the sand and let Lil Kim do whatever he wants. Doing nothing is not an alternative. Granted the options are very few with some worse than others. Military is out for the time being. Negotiation failed miserabliy. What else is there? Options please.

Paints quite a picture of NK desolation, doesn't it?

^Touted as a military powerhouse, how tough would it be to take out their grid to shut down military communication? Seems like they are one 15 amp breaker away from the stone age. Can you imagine the cost to upgrade the nation if unification ever became reality?

Yes, but this isn't news. NK has been pretty desolate for as long as there has been a NK. The people have been starving now for at least a decade. What little they have in the way of resources are available for the leadership and the military in order to keep control of the population. It is pretty easy to pick out Pyongyang from outer space, though.

NK's desolation and starvation doesn't change the threat presented by one Nagasaki-scale atomic weapon being delivered 750 miles in any direction. The only country I can think of that has both the resources and the political will to put boots on the ground in NK in any meaningful way is China, and I don't see them doing it any time soon. They understand that if they break NK, they own NK. And even if they were ready to go in full-force, what is the guarantee that his atomic capability can be contained? That is a pretty weighty gamble for China to take - they've got a front row seat. So the world has to suck it up and deal with Kim, even though we know he's a decietful little weasel. I'd love to hear an alternative.
