You may have forgotten. Some of haven't.

Apparently one of those side effects of all that spending on the Iraq invasion and aftermath of implementing a "no-plan" plan to occupy the place once the highest order goal to achieve in two POTUS terms, Saddam being deposed, was achieved.

In this case it would behoove us to have a carefully thought out response that brings about a positive conclusion to the reign of Kim whatever his name is, and not another horrendous fiasco we can neither afford, or control.

Why is it that unleashing the military is somehow a good idea, even when we have some hard lessons learned in Vietnam, and now Iraq, that they are good at certain jobs pertaining mostly to military objectives, and they suck at other jobs, like those that pertain to diplomacy and administration of humanitarian functions. And they are not the planners of policy. I find the ease with which you advocate military action in light of how poorly they end up performing when civilians send them to implement half baked policy initiatives amazing, and how you hold the ones responsible for such actions in the civilian branch pretty much free of any responsibility for the failures.

So what that we could sink a ship of theirs in an instant? What next? Why is what is next not important to ponder, before you make it inevitable?

Jim

Just for you, to refresh your memory.

What exactly do you think Obama should "do about it"? Wage nuclear war? I suppose you also think it should be done Bush-Hitler style and simply done with provocation.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

^ Slow starvation. You can't fight a conventional war without food or oil. Anarchy will result from within. Sad to say this, but the people have had over 50 years to revolt and now they will unfortunately have to pay with many lives to save the masses. Lobbing a nuke will only hasten their demise. NOBODY wants that war.

Do you pay any attention at all?

What makes you think the guy in charge would let you starve the people he uses to give him power? Think. I know it is difficult when you think the Wild, Wild, Wild, West was a truthful account of US and world history, but give it a try. What do you think Kim-the-fuck would do once you began your slow starvation program?

You're forgetting the biggest difference between Kim and the last dictator who stood up to the US. Kim actually has WMDs. As to why now? If I was going to guess I'd say it has something to do with his recent naming of his youngest son as his successor. For whatever reason, Kim thinks that this will in some way entrench his power in the country.

How many would die in a conventional war? Nuclear war? Much less than if Lil Kim starves 'em and he would be the killer, not us.

Cut off all income at the top and revolution will happen from within. Not just Lil Kim's money, but ALL money flowing in. Expose all banks worldwide who deal with any entity public or private in NK. Finally something for the UN to do. There are probably no more than a few thousand people who live in luxury in NK and if they are cut off, then they will point directly at Lil Kim. Keep him busy with internal strife and he won't have time to focus on us. Their food supply is so tenuous that it will take little time to creep up to the military rank and file and then the brass.

Now is the time for 0 to unhook Panetta's leash. He won't have any problem debriefing the Repubs but his base may balk at the human issues. Destabilization can come in many ways and I'm sure Leon has many tricks up his sleeve that you wouldn't approve of.

Another point. Starve him before he makes his nukes reliable enough to last through a rocket launch. He is probably lighting one off underground that is as big as a truck. Making it small enough to be deliverable via rocket will bring a whole other set of issues.

We don't have much time but we have enough to financially crash him.

How long until he reacts to being starved and what do you propose we do while starving him and the population of North Korea to prevent him from taking action?

Think. Every action will generate a response. What will that most likely, to least likely be and what do you do to limit them and the effects of his available actions? Just doing what you say will generate an immediate response no one wants.

From this daily escalation, it's easy to see that it's only a matter of time before Kim pushes "the button".

Everyone is walking around on eggshells, and it seems that Kim is looking for any excuse to drop his bomb......as we idly watch...........
