Yes. And I am ass pleased as I can be that Obama has essentially adopted the strategy worked-out by Rumsfeld as modified by Petraeus. In the long run, introducing liberty & self-determination among the Arabs will be good for them, us, and the rest of the planet. And it keeps Hussein from grabbing all of the Mideast oil which was his oft-stated ambition. Imagine what a world that would have been.
I wish Obama had not followed Bush down the unholy alliance of big business and federal gov. That looks like predestination of a bad ending.
Buy yourself a history book. Rumsfeld fought Petraeus tooth and nail, and it was Bush's critics who forced him into sending in more troops. I have yet to see anything like victory come out of the whole thing, all's it has done is resulted in a stalemate that simply postpones the inevitable implosion of Iraq.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
