Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.

Yeah, but who the fuck would want to marry that whore?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Actually, that's the only compelling reason I can think of for the state to restrict the practice...especially as it relates to the distribution of assets and child custody, etc.

That was actually another one of their arguments in the Utah case, if a woman fathered children by multiple husbands, The State would end up bearing the cost of sorting out whose kid belonged to who in the case of divorce, of course, that was back before they had DNA.

Given that children aren't always awarded to the birth parents, I think the legal complexities expand exponentially with polygamy. I don't have any moral or ick-factor issues with the practice, but I'm just not sure we have the administrative infrastructure to accommodate all the implications.

There are places in the US (horrors, even some in Utah) where it is practiced in a kind of "don't ask, don't tell" way.

Noboy's business except the CONSENTING ADULTS. Let them enter a contractual relationship.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.

I dunno. Polygamy, like homosexuality, is something I'm proud to say I don't give a crap about. None of my bidness.
