By YOUR definition that is a solid, religious based marriage.

As for the definition of marriage and 5,000 years, you are incorrect. In many cultures, in many religions, one man, one woman was not the rule. Abraham, faithful friend of God and father of the Hebrew nation -- THREE wives. Moses who is said to have written Liviticus - Two wives.

So, no, 1+1 is not an age old tradition throughout the world. Just parts of YOUR world. But that's OK, nobody is suggesting that you convert. Nobody cares if you have one lovely wife and are 100% happy with that. I know I am. But I don't have the right to define what makes other people happy or the right to put rules in place to STOP other people from enjoying the same happiness that I have. That would be an arrogant and prejudicial position, both interwoven in sins noted in Proverbs.
Not true. Marriage has legal binding consequences.

"xxx" ... "xxxxx"...... "xxxxx"...what have you ...have been around forever.

They come in every race and creed and are probvably in every family in the world if the "line" is long enough.

So why would anyone care if "the state" gives them the right to be married under "the laws of man" anyway?

I know that I don't.

In many ways I feel that homosexuals have created some of their own problems in getting these laws allowing them to legally marry by being too far up in straight peoples faces.

"Gay Pride Parades" are one such example.

I can just imagine that many of the "oldsters" who gave a thumbs down in California have images of crazed drag queens in Carmen Maranda hats taking to the streets in wedding dresses ................. Oh wait! They do that already.

Get my point?

Not true!
I went to the court house and that was it to be considered married. The ceremony I had later on was just a formality and to satisfy the religious needs for all parents. The latter was NOT NECESSARY and I didn't spend more than $30 on a cake. No dresses or suits we all wore sandals and other hippie accouterments. Later on most of the guests ended up in jail because of the smoke in the woods.

The gays would have gotten further if they decided to call it a civil union and not a marriage. Marriage brings up all sorts of connotations and quasi religious notions. If they really want this, then they should learn to be more subtle.

That is true but hate is so deep that the religious right would have taken ownership in what the local court houses should do. You won't hear the end of it no matter how you slice it.

The religious right is killing itself off and will continue to do so as long as the economy shines for most.
