Half a million real jobs available now

As many as 1 million people work in the nation's farms each year, and the Labor Department estimates that more than half are in the country illegally. Efforts to curb illegal immigration have left many growers concerned about facing fines for hiring undocumented workers.
Labor Department suspends farm worker rules

Are you willing to bus people from the projects to the fields?

How does the current workforce get there? Use that method.

But there is hope. Just last week, I was surprised to see a teenage punk actually performing janitorial services at a club.

The current workforce is bussed once from the border after they obtain work permits then they are lodged in chicken coops for the duration of the picking season. They net a pay after rent, food and other fees are taken from their wages and for the most part end up breaking even or even owing money for perpetual slavery. That's how it's legally done. The illegal part I have no idea how it works so I will reserve comment.

how can dp quote mlfun at 12:07PM when mlfun posts what is quoted by dp at 12:11PM ?

I see the total, absolute disrespect to our time/space continuum. It will not end well, I'm telling you.

Many migrant farmers live 12-20 to an cinder block motel room, illegal in most areas and ride to work in the back of a truck, also a legal problem. Others live in their cars by the fields.

Now, if they are not there, we do have one of two problems with legal workers. One, cost of transportation from current residences to the fields [calculate fuel costs for daily transport from urban areas to fields] or move workers around in migrant fashion to different farms, making education for their children problematic.

We have build a very odd, lax system around the migrant worker system over the past 65 years. There is no, "use that method" to this. The migrant worker is more like a carny than anything else. Fitting a fixed population to a non fixed job for stupidly low wages is not going to be an easy fix.
