If it pays better than welfare then why not? Does it pay better than welfare?

Now, if they are not there, we do have one of two problems with legal workers. One, cost of transportation from current residences to the fields [calculate fuel costs for daily transport from urban areas to fields] or move workers around in migrant fashion to different farms, making education for their children problematic.

We have build a very odd, lax system around the migrant worker system over the past 65 years. There is no, "use that method" to this. The migrant worker is more like a carny than anything else. Fitting a fixed population to a non fixed job for stupidly low wages is not going to be an easy fix.
Does sound odd . . . and I think the thread is referring to the illegals. They seem to be able to make it all the way from wherever they came from, work for whatever wages they receive, live, survive, and send some of it home. Must be an OK living or we'd stop it from happening, right? Seems like 10 million jobs available would be a good thing.

Otherwise, we are allowing employers who are breaking the law by employing people who are breaking the law, the employers paying wages that likely break the law, the employees living under conditions that we want to fix, and all so the prices of the goods they produce will be reduced.

Who is defending this?

Use the Sherrif Joe method; have inmates (non-violent) perform the labor for a minimal wage and time off for participation. Offer one day off a sentence for every week worked plus $10 a day for cigarettes, candy, etc. Make it a voluntary thing so there is no ACLU issue with forced labor or cruel punishment. If I were in jail I'd be all over that deal, it would beat the hell out of sitting around a cell all day in doors.

Yep.
As stated, they're trucked here from Mexico in conditions Americans won't tolerate, live in conditions Americans won't tolerate, work in conditions Americans won't tolerate for wages that might be minimum.
All of the above to keep prices tolerable for Americans.

The downside is that they have children over here, that are now American citizens. The children then qualify for Medicaid and other benefits, that their parents have not contributed to at all, thus creating a larger burden for the working Americans. So who is benefiting more? And then God forbid we try to send the illegal parents back, but what to do with their American children? What a quagmire!

Those are not illegals! They are migrant workers that we allowed in the country to work as slaves. Get your facts straight
