Rain. Rain. Rain. Nonstop medium to light rain all day. Had a nice lunch at this place Conde Nast suggested and it was kosher. Bought two bottles of their wine, cicra 2001 vin as that was the best tasting. Then the Davey and I drove to the mountain top fortress of Montepulciano and I decided not to park in the super packed pay for lot. We drive around the city walls and then went into an innocuous street to park. The street turned into an alley. The alley turned into a human packed tourist street. So now we are somehow in the ancient city driving around and cannot get out. People are everywhere, non stop cobblestone madness. I feel like such a fucking ass, then I see a carabiniere, and well this might get damn interesting. He ignores us and passes by. Literally hundreds of people we are passing or are passing us. No one seems upset though. Finally the GPS figures out where we are and how to get out, of course after driving the length of the ancient inner city. Damn.
At lunch the people next to us spoke English so I asked the generic where from question. Santa Fe New Mexico they said, about 8 blocks from my estate, we exchanged cards. Next at the Banfi Winery we met two cute Canadian Grad students traveling together for a few months between semesters. Long chats and we might meet up tomorrow for lunch. Blah, blah, blah...
