Bear, thanks for making my point for me by citing statistics and contradicting yourself.
First you say we can't restrict abusive speech because people will leave, site traffic is up, blah, blah, blah. Then you say that most of the people aren't in OT...which is true. So again, if most people don't come to OT, why is it that OT controls the rest of the site? And whether you want to admit it or not, OT is part of BW. You can't join the site without being exposed to OT, and OT in turn kowtows to the lowest common denominator.
And as to the other attempt to explain away the issue, the threads I'm thinking of are not of questionable re: attack because of the topic. Someone posts something supportive of Christianity, one of the responses is "go **** yourself". Is that acceptable? Why? How does that help anything?
So back to my original point...if there are rules, is it too much to ask what they are? If we actually knew what they were, then you wouldn't have to worry about a bunch of names with ~BANNED~ under them. And if there aren't rules, it would be nice if you'd simply admit it's a free-for-all. As it is now, all of a sudden someone is banned, and all we can conclude is that it was an arbitrary, capricious act by BW staff. Or perhaps what I'm hearing is that in fact IS the only rule: you can irritate, attack or insult anyone you like in any fashion you like, so long as it's not staff or someone that has a staff connection?
