It is a very good point. It is why, among other considerations we have been seeing the dismantling of elements of companies like AIG, just so this type of thing can't happen again.

By the time all of this is unwound I would expect AIG to be less than 1/3 of its original footprint and no longer in the "too big to fail" category. That is one of the unwindings of Gramm, Leach, Bliley that will just take some time.

This would have been an excellent article six months ago to argue for government intervention but now it is well behind as much of the disassembly is already being address, some four or six months in process.


Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
