HP/Compac?? This is an AP 550 HP workstation and could be upgraded to two Pentium processors, but limited RAM. I do have 2 hard drives in it. An 80 Gig and the older 40 Gig. It is OLD but upgradeable. My monitor is a newer Viewsonic VG150, but it is about ten years old too.

Bondavi,
Any thoughts on a new laptop? Netbook or Laptop choices. I'm looking at spending less than $700.00. Toshiba has a nice one at $649.00 17" M305P model.

I think a full 15"-17" screen laptop so I can get an optical driver(CDRW). If this machine is up and running I don't need the CDRW as this one has it. I would like the capability to load programs from a CD onto the laptop rather than downloading online.

You'll hear people say get a Mac but I think you're more like me and like a little bit of dolphin in your tuna for flavor. I'd rather see you pick up a needle in an alley to use than buy a Toshiba. I've got one that I'm going to video going out the window @ 10,000' with a sound track of every translation of "F*** You!" except in Japanese to be email to those a-holes.

I bought a Dell from the Dell Outlet ( Dell Outlet Home & Home Office - Refurbished Laptops - Refurbished Laptop - Refurbished Laptop Computer - Refurbished Notebook )and have been really happy. Paid about $800 less than if I built it online and have really liked it except for a few Vista issues. LED illumination in the keyboard and display, high cap battery ( +6 hours!!!), 4 gig ram, big hard drive (yeah baby). It's even got a integral cam for making porn on overnights and a fingerprint reader to keep "people" from seeing it on your hard drive

Has this got anything to do with W126's?

"500"sel - M117.968 --> M119.960 conversion, standalone LinkPlus ECU (linkecu.com) tuned to ~260kw, full dual 2.25" mandrel bend exhaust, AMG 2nd Gen full body kit & interior mods, Bilstein HD's and custom springs. 17" SSR wheels 8.5J front 9.5J rear (235, 255 tyres)

560sec - I hate sec's

You're unique, just like everyone else.

The Vostro A860's are cheap to get into ($399) and feature a baby Core 2 Duo, 2GB, DVD-RW.... 15.6" real estate and Vista Home Basic, which keeps the "fat" out. Bought one for my parents and they love it. Upgrade the battery if you can. There's also the Vostro 1520 model, and Inspiron 15, and Lenovo ThinkPad to look at your price range.

I'm using a Latitude E6400 and love it for the lightness, portability, battery usage, integrated webcam. Only issue is sometimes text jumps around on the screen but this has subsided over age (breaking in the keybaord/mousepad?)

I'd stay away from HP/Compaq laptops. Working in IT, I see a bunch of these turn up as paperweights a LOT sooner than most of the others.

Netbooks are great and cheap, but they're SMALL, and the keyboards too. Moreso for when you're on the road or at the local coffee joint, but not really geared for the daily grind.

I have a Mac, but they are twice the price. But worth it I think.

+1000 on F@CK TOSHIBA.... I have hated them and I have never bought any of their products since the 80's. They sold a Mill & Drill to Russia during the cold war and it made their subs as quiet as ours. I was in the S-3 Anti-Sub community and believe me, it made my shipmates jobs much harder and put the planets safety in jeopardy by tipping the BOP towards the Russkies... (Remember them?)

90-560 SEL - Sedan - 199/261 - Stock

Macintosh, right?

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

Whatever you do, do not buy ASUS. I am about to jump up and down on one that I bought less then a year ago, what a piece of shit and they are not cheap.

Presently using my 6 year old IBM laptop and it still works like a dream. Most of my friends swear by Dell, but I am reluctant to purchase another computer just now after wasting so much time, money and trouble with the ASUS saga.

I am talking about a laptop version, bought in Hong Kong and so far:

1x new LCD
1x new hard drive
1x new battery

Appart from the plastic case it has completely failed. Maybe I got a lemon but I sure as hell will think twice in the future.

This morning it refused to open at all, completely dead sigh, and after the last repair there was no sound and the clock did not work. Do you think I should shoot the people who I got it from or simply kill the repair shop?

ERIC.
