But I'll give you two perspectives:
#1 IFF you believe what your church teaches you then you risk eternal damnation if you don't tithe according to your church's definition.
OTOH, if you don't believe what your church teaches, WTF are you doing in that church? Go find another.
#2 The generally accepted paradigm of Christianity (for non-Roman Catholics) since the reformation and since Vatican II (for Roman Catholics) is "faith alone" is all that is necessary for salvation. Thus, no matter how much you give or how much you do, or proselytize, none of that is worth a damn (literally). If you have faith, no works are necessary for salvation. If you have no faith, no works are sufficient for salvation.
