I find it quite interesting that so many people will take the ramblings of both sides of the Founding Fathers / Christianity debate as fact without reading the writings of the Founding Fathers for themselves.
We can bicker back and forth for eternity (if you believe in eternity)
but the simple FACT is we all have our own choice to make. So read and interpret the information for yourself.
Dont take my word or the word of any other person throwing their 2 cents out. Search for yourself. Do a search for the letters from George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and others. But dont go on the biased sites like the sites that the earlier exerpts were pulled from, look at sites such as the Library of Congress or the Yale University website.
The Library of Congress site is nice because you can read the letters in the original handwritten form. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/mss/mgw/mgw2/040/2840272.jpg
For me I believe that the Founding Fathers did have Christian beliefs and expressed them quite often in their writings. Read Washington's letters in his own hand and it is much less of a debate.
Anyway back to the original issue raised. My thought on the matter is quite basic, although I do have a Christian bias. Nature itself rejects Homosexuality. This can be debated (if you want to twist reality) but it cannot be denied. Male and female were created to be together. Male and male, female and female simply were not.
Now I do not hate anyone whether they are straight, gay, black, white, or brown. But there are certain actions that I do not support or accept. By rejecting the act, I am not hating the person. It is not throwing the baby out with the bath water.
The sad truth is the FEW voices that have made themselve heard in the past have trumped the SILENT majority. History has shown us that everthing can be equated to the pendulum which has now started to swing the other way.
The Article 14 argument does not hold water against CA's upholding Prop 8 as the US Constitution does not make a provision for same sex marriage. The Founding Fathers would never have tolerated or even entertained such an idea.
So if the People want the right, the need to fight for the ammendment to the US Constitution. But this will not be an easy fight as the SILENT majority is no longer silent as evidenced by our friends in liberal CA.
