Love Potion #9

What's in your water bottle, besides water?

(NECN) - Have you ever wondered just exactly what's in your water bottle aside from water? Alexi Ernstoff of the Museum of Science in Boston answers this mystery in our Sci-Tech Today segment.

German researchers looked at a particular type of plastic known simply as Recycling Code #1. This is a common plastic used to make water bottles.

Many chemicals make up plastics, some of which mimic human hormones -- specifically estrogen. The researchers looked at snails in a glass bottle and a plastic bottle, and those in the plastic bottle reproduced at about twice the rate.

There is no way to conclude that humans would be affected in this way. There is also no evidence in the study that one should stop drinking bottled water.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

I don't know how harmful it may be, but once near the Mojave desert, I had left the only available water inside my car (plastic bottle) during the summer heat, and know how nasty the taste can be.

Students form our local university gathered a bottle of every imaginable brand of water along with samples from the common taps. The common tap water tested cleaner in all chemical analysis and the tap water tasted better. One bottle had a tremendous amount of hydrocarbons present and was deemed unsafe.

So... You're saying only pure grain alcohol is safe now?

While I was living in NYC there was a company that was selling "spring water". Turned out they were simply bottling NYC tap water [which is pretty good, by the way]. Folks from all over the tri state were wandering around with these bottles in their hand for a couple of years. Poland Springs finally figured it out when they tested their competitor.
