Any good independent MB shops in your area? Most issues like these are common to specific MB models and chances are that someone may have seen similar problem before.
Can you go to your local MB dealer and ask to speak to a senior technician? Advice is free, maybe he can shed some light on this.
I had a hot starting problem with my 500SEL and somebody in this forum steered me in the direction of the fuel accumulator, which when replaced, solved the problem immediately. Sometimes you get lucky I guess.
There were some other guesses such as bad fuel distributor, leaky injectors, etc. Good thing I attacked the fuel accumulator first. I eliminated leaky injectors because the car behaved like it was starved for fuel, not flooding, which leaky injectors would cause.
Stalling problems can be caused by the idle speed dropping too low and then the fuel pump relay shuts down the fuel pump. This is a safety system and I had something like this happen on a Mazda Protege. Does the car stall with the A/C on? Typiclaly engine idle RPMs will be slightly higher when A/C is on.
