Only partially correct. It was a hedge for commodities traders that never took delivery upon option expiration. Someone stating Iraq was a war for oil is delirious at best. Did the war end up playing a role in it - yes - but opposite effect as pipelines were destroyed.
What about the other pipeline disruptions that had nothing to do with Iraq? Price came down when inventories of crude went up when the lack of US consumption was an ongoing concern. What has OPEC sone since?
Try not to lump emotions into logical equations. Our economy has more to do with the price of oil than anything that happened in Iraq.
Delirious my ass. Guess who gets paid for rebuilding the pipelines? Your mother?
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
