Are cats empaths?
A bit of background--
My Wasabi has always drank from an aquarium with guppies in it. As long as I've been his guardian. Someone came around and terrorized him about it and other things, to the point that he would no longer come into my space. He's lived exclusively outside and upstairs because of this.
Last night, I was blue. My best friend visited, and upon laying down for the night after visiting time was over, Mr Wasabi came and laid on my chest. He stayed there until I was deep in sleep and began turning, whereupon he moved to the arm of the sofa(it comforts me to sleep on a sofa-- it's like you're not alone) and stayed overnight. It's likely the rain in this instance.
Now, I know there are a lot of stories about domesticated cats in New Kingdom Egypt, there are numerous tomb paintings showing cats in everyday life; but the cat somehow was turned into a deity along the lines of the Roman goddess Vesta. They obviously protected the home from infestations and that somehow got turned into this divine notion. Some even believe they can see/repel evil spirits.
It seems to me that he can sense emotion. When I'm sad, he comes and sits in my lap, or lays next to me. He paws at my face when I cry-- his eyes and actions say he knows things that most humans would need conversations to understand. My scientific mind tells me this is just someone looking past evidence(pawwing at tears to catch them, sleeping inside because of weather, wanting affection himself, not giving it to me) to see what his heart needs to see.
What do you think about it?
