What on earth are we doing in Afghanistan?

Another fiasco. How long is this going to continue? All we are doing is killing more innocent people, foment more hatred against America, and help recruit more terrorists. Who benefits from this nightmare besides the war profiteers?

Why we’re still in Iraq is an even bigger question mark. Let’s get out of there first.

Until the American people and Administration accept the fact that terrorist in general and the Taliban in particular are criminals and should be combated accordingly – where conventional military efforts are futile – we’ll never secure success in the Region.

I've long insisted that our decision to undergo a fullscale invasion of Afghanistan was an epic strategic blunder. That entire region has a tribally-based culture, which doesn't lend itself to central governance...either one which is imposed upon them or indigenously generated.

Oh, and does anyone remember why we invaded in the first place...so, where are the 911 perps, anyway?

Some dead, some in Guantánamo, some still in the Region, and some gone home.

We invaded to destroy the Taliban regime and kill 9/11 conspirators; the destruction of the Taliban was designed to stabilize the Region and deny a safe haven for future terrorist.

That was fine provided we stopped there and worked with other nations' security and intelligence agencies to monitor terrorist activity and respond accordingly.

Correct. The next step would be to work with the UN and/or other organizations to Balkanize Afghanistan and create a Confederation of autonomous states based on the tribal nations. Each autonomous nation would have a sponsor nation – Germany, UK, Russia, etc – who would station peacekeeping forces. The US WOULD NOT participate but provide logistic support only due to its unfortunate relationship with Israel.

The is not, btw, a hindsight is 20/20 issue; this and other better, viable plans were available to the Administration at the time – rejected for political reasons (re-election concerns) and the pending invasion of Iraq.

Oh Dear.....

...What will Barak O'Bomber do next?

Have AF1 fly low over the city of New York and scare the shit out of everyone?

...Oh wait ...... that's been done on his watch already.

So tell me... Just how much shit would have President Bush have taken if that many Afghani civilians would have been off'd in one fell swoop?

How many President Bush effigies would be getting hung and burnt in Washington DC this very minute?

Let's see the "true colors" of those who cried like the bitches that they are for Bush's head everytime a civilian got killed.

Where's the cry for Obama's ass to get carved off and served up?

Where's all the hypocrites hiding?

This is what happens when our deeds do not match the words. WTF does "reaching out to the Muslim world" mean in this context ?

Quote:
Friday, 8 May 2009
Shouting "Death to America" and "Death to the Government", thousands of Afghan villagers hurled stones at police yesterday as they vented their fury at American air strikes that local officials claim killed 147 civilians.
...
A local official Abdul Basir Khan said yesterday that he had collected the names of 147 people who had died, making it the worst such incident since the US intervened in Afghanistan started in 2001.
...
A claim by American officials, which was repeated by the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates yesterday in Kabul, that the Taliban might have killed people with grenades because they did not pay an opium tax is not supported by any eyewitnesses and is disproved by pictures of deep bomb craters, one of which is filled with water.
Mr Gates expressed regret for the incident but did not go so far as to accept blame.

... and this important discussion continues.

The only reason we are starting WARS, there in the middle east is because our government has been bought by the Israeli government, and our troops are not dying 5 THOUSAND MILES AWAY from here to keep us safe, but they are dying for the Israelis cause, I lost a few friends in Iraq, and this is what they kept saying, that the middle east is beside Israel and we are thousands of miles away and these people do not even have money to buy shoes to wear and they fight us in flip fops and they live in mud houses and sleep on the floor, how did we a super power come to do this stuff to these third world poor countries. In 1 year our economy was bad and people were getting worried and people did not have food, imagine how bad the economy's in Iraq and Afghanistan has been because of us. US THE PEOPLE , should VOTE these secular extremist out of office, and bring the American way of life back and to stand for peace justice and the American way.

Ok!

So once again I must ask, "Where are the people would would have been hanging and burning effigies of President Bush over the same thing now"?

Isn't this the worst single civilian killing since 9/11 ?

Why haven't they all taken to the streets calling for Obama's ass to be carved up?
