Unfortunately the sane seem to be in the minority. And I don't mean Repubs. the country is so polarized there are basically no moderates left, as evidence in this forum.

There are plenty of moderates left. They don't play on political fora at midnight. If they did, they would, at some point crystallize their positions and no longer be moderate.

Eh, I don't buy that. A moderate can see both sides of a situation and take the good from both and remain moderate.

So can a polarized person if they try.

I know when I came on this board, a mil board and an economics board I would have always considered myself very moderate. Six years of chatting and debate have crystallized many opinions into a more hardened stance. But that doesn't mean I don't see another side. The Bush TARP issue is a very good example. A hardwired Liberal would not have taken that position, even if they believed it to their core, just because Bush pushed it. That would be disingenuous.

They do seem to be dwindling, but apathy still looms much larger than participation in this forum would suggest.

I enjoy disabusing the naive of their illusions. By your own definition, moderates are always behind the curve, waiting to see how the extremes fall into place. Believe me, there isn't any good in some situations; you have to avoid the bad exclusively. This kind of moderation amounts to namby-pambyism and is truly only understandable among the youth who lack the life experience to have developed a sense of integrity. By the time one is in their 40s or 50s, at the latest, one should have developed a sense of personal ideology. By that I mean you have a sense of how the world works as a basis for your decisions and opinions. Claiming to be a moderate at any thing at this age is living your life with the goal not to offend anyone.

There you go again, contradicting yourself.
