That's nowhere near the jump for Gonzalez in '01. Overall, I'd say 2, 17, 31, 33, 26, 45, 44, 38 could easily pass as a young man maturing. HR's combined with batting average also seems to back that up. Look at the pre-juice records of Mickey Mantle or Roger Maris for comparison. Plus, he never has fallen off, save 2007, where he bemoaned his traumatic misery in continuing with the Red Sox -- so no real drop off after all the testing started. Look at A-Rod and Giambi as examples of guys who stopped shooting and hit the wall.
If he's been juicing, he has probably been doing so more modestly than many other players of his day, and apparently, more intelligently -- up until today anyway...
You could be right, I'm just suggesting that the evidence is notably less damning than in many other instances.
