My take is that he won a Cy Young as a member of the Cubs. That would elevate him to demigod status.

Oddly missing from another Benz website that lists important events that occurred "on this date" is Cy Young and the 1st perfect game of the modern baseball era in 1904.

Heavy sigh.

Must shatter you then to learn he finished his career as a Cardinal.

You will never understand Cub fans. Shatter???? Cub fans have a deeper understanding of the nature of the universe. We do not shatter. Ever hear of Bruce Sutter? How about Lou Brock? Guess where they came from (cue theme from Jeopardy)...

And unlike you, I hold no malice toward any baseball team (except the Yankees, of course. I am an American, after all).

Bruce Sutter and Lou Brock may have come FROM the Cubs, but its where they ended up that people remembered them for.

I hold no malice toward any baseball team either.

Which is why I have no problem loathing the Cubs.

(j/k - I love a good rivalry. When you guys get up on us, you're fully entitled to make a speed bag out of my sack as well)

Here we go...

Dodgers Outfielder Manny Ramirez Suspended for Drug Use

Thursday, May 07, 2009

Manny Ramirez will be suspended for 50 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

The 12-time All-Star is expected to attribute the test results to medication he received from a physician for a personal health matter, a source close to the situation told The Los Angeles Times.

Ramirez signed a two-year, $45-million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in March. His suspension begins Thursday.

The MLB commissioner's office did not immediately disclose specifics of the violation by Ramirez.

The hulking right-handed outfielder with 533 career home runs will not be eligible to return to the team until July 3, according to the Times.

The suspension follows Alex Rodriguez's acknowledgement in February that he used steroids from 2001 to 2003.

Calls to Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, were not immediately returned Thursday.

Major League Baseball's drug policy requires a 50-game suspension for a player's first positive drug test, a 100-game suspension for a second and a lifetime ban for a third.

The suspensions are without pay.
