Sorry I couldn't back you up a little , but I was tied up with life above and beyond the internet ( a small prayer group).
That said, I believe you held your own. What is always amazing is how folks without set standards can critique us with standards that technically are impossible to meet. We have an edict of how to live which is (hopefully in you as well) ever improving, and a God of grace who understands our failings. We are then asked to ask. for forgiveness and grow on.
I say the secular world has no set standard, and in essence that is somewhat factual, but their standard is actually set by themselves. Sometimes for good and sometimes not. We are called narrow minded when we lock down to our faith, and yet hypocritical when we deviate, either by accident or by our own will. Take strength in realizing we only have one judge to answer to, and he is the God of grace. We are watched by the world and they are judgmental, yet would pick on even the smallest item to make a point, as is evident in the previous postings. The big picture is to most the miniscule part, and the small stuff is their picky points.
You see, the individual non christian generally doesn't understand grace, or forgiveness, since no one is there to do that for them except a friend or family member, and not the deity of God. There is no standard except for their own, and it is based on many things due to their upbringing or some philosophy they have chosen. We didn't choose a philosophy, but rather it chose us, and we decided (free will) wether to run with the concept or not. The world judges us on how well we hold to our God given standards, but technically they are held to no standard, except in their own making.
We don't have that option, except to reject Christ. Not a wise option. And when the Spirit of God grabs us, we know what it is. We know what we must strive for.
We will be criticized by those with NO standards which is laughable and sad at the same time. but we know what we have, in not only this life, but the next (Rev 21 for a good heaven rundown).
Glad you do not hold to a formal religion as a basis for your beliefs, but rather to the teachings of biblical principle. Churches do hold to the basics but get messed up on the small stuff. I am trying to first improve myself and then work from the inside to effect the church. It needs help, but first I start with my relationship and build from there.
Prayers for you.
Prayers also for those who despise us.
