Behold the contrast between the initial reactions from a man of passion above and a liberal intellectual below...
You just don't get the emotional response, do you ? Bear ?
I really don't. I was in NYC on 9/11. I was there for the aftermath. I had friends die in the towers and I had a friend die in the Pentagon. I had friends from Fire Station 54/4 die [the entire Fn Station shift died]. So I have a very strong understanding of the events of 9/11.
I also have seen all of the video of the flyovers from the AF1 event. It was an over reaction by the media. I am sure that there are some folks that freak everytime they see a plane coming in on approach to LGA. Those folks need to find work somewhere besides NYC because NYC is always going to be a high air traffic area. This plane made a few passes and was gone, It was obviously AF1, original reports were simple AF1 over NYC reports. It was not until a hour after the fact that the first "OMG" reports came out when the media started whipping it up.
So, say what you want but this was, more than anything else a media event.
Everyone but the White House trumpeter has apologized for the issue, even though they had nothing to do with it [contrary to Big B's assertions that Obama must have been on the radio to the pilot telling him which buildings to buzz]. Looking at the NY papers and media websites it has already moved off to the back burner as one would expect.
And guess what, at this very moment there is a ComAir flight from Rochester that just passed over lower Manhattan on the way to Kennedy at 3K. That is 500 feet higher than AF1 flew yesterday.
