But the question is on Creation.
There are 3 trains of thought in the christian sector on creation(and possibly more)
1) The bible is literal, and everything happened in 7 days
2) The Bible is still literal but the timeline issue is explained as days equaling timelines, not 24 hours.(hebrew translation)
3) The bible is literal, but Genesis Ch 1 was not a description of the actual beginning of time, but instead a description of an area of land (promise land area) and it's development.(translation of heaven and earth = sky and land, in Hebrew)

2 is healthily explained by Francis Collins, in The Language of God. Collins headed the human genome project.
3 is healthily explained by an old testament theologian named Salehamer, in Genesis Unbound.

2 and 3 both leave room for science to meld with christian ideals.
1 has issues, but unfortunately a large sector of christians buy into it.
Good theology should meld with good science.

What about the most obvious and logical:

4. The bible is allegorical and based upon the accumulation of centuries old oral histories and the teaching of the religious leaders of the time including those which explain the phenomenon of the birth of Christianity.

Believers only get in trouble when they try to define it as literal and inerrant. At that point they are unable to either explain the message or live it.

I'm just still pissed because the guys that did the driveway screwed up the pool plumbing. I found that out last night at 5pm.

They seemed unhappy to hear from me. Apparently I was not tactful after they mentioned that it might not be "their" fault.

I thought he was assuming I'm Jewish, already.

There is a vast difference between religion and faith.

one can have faith in creationism, yet not religion. Religion is an organized effort to control the masses.

I'm not a real dickhead...but I acted like one in high school.

Why didn't the bible mention wooly mammoths? Omission? Isn't than an error?

Waking the Baby Mammoth - Neatorama

"Miraculous" was an interesting word selected to describe it's reappearance. By all indications, it's the real deal. Kind of ruins it for those "earth is 2,000 - 6,000 years old" dumbfucks, doesn't it. Where's Kirk Cameron when you need him?

40,000 years is like yesterday from a geological standpoint. The technology available to us will continue to punch gigantic holes in these goofy constructs under which the deeply religious operate. The longer and tighter they hold onto them, the more ignorant and indefensible they'll appear. It's already so bad that conversations like this and the Jesus thread pit otherwise civil people against one another, with incredulity, as if we have to PROVE why 2+2=4 to someone who thinks it's really 5 - because their manmade religious text said so.

Your favorite organized religion sucks.
