US Dept. of Homeland Security has declared an emergency, much like, "...what we would do before a hurricane strikes". NOT GOOD.

I think it's quite a wise move to be prepared to stay away from the sneezing, spitting unwashed masses if this shit comes to your town. If it all passes without drama, how bad is a few weeks worth of provisions to deal with?

Pork products are "safe" though all countries have instituted import bans...

Yeah, I figure I needed to have this stuff ready anyway. I used to have a kit together, but got lazy over time. It's time to have it all together again, no matter what the emergency might be, man-made, natural, or otherwise.

I think if this takes off, it will hit a lot of people who are completely unprepared. I suspect 99% of the population has no food reserves beyond 2 days, much less any backup plans for survival.

I hope that it wasn't in Philadelphia in a latent form, because we spent Thursday and Friday in the city.

''Doctor, doctor, I've got aches and pains and a high fever - I think it must be swine flu''

'I see, and how long have you had these symptoms?'

'' Well, let me see, I think it must be about a WEEEEEK''

I thank you.

I have a feeling it will be contained before it turns into a pandemic, but because so many of our products come from Mexico I truly see this getting worst for our border states. I have tones of can food, so hopefully that helps. I try not to get spooked out by stuff like this, but it is a real situation I consider when going food shopping. I don't even by veggies anymore, so much to look out for. I also think thats what people are pushing for us to start growing our own veggies.

There's a big difference to being spooked as opposed to prepared. My gut feeling is that it will fizzle out, but if it spreads it becomes a civic responsibility to stay out of contact with the masses.

Like Mexico needs more reasons for people not to go there. Yikes.

Fingers crossed that our status as "godforsaken" and "desolate" applies to viruses as well.
