I think the Solstice could easily stay in play as a Chevy Monza if allowed. I can't see why that car can't easily compete with miata et al.

Of course they would want to Corvette the nose a bit.

I have had a 65, a pair of 82 collector editions, an 89 and a 91 ZR1. They keep getting better and better. While I would get another 65, convertible or coupe, I am considering replacing the SL with a C6 convertible this summer. 400HP that gets about 30mpg on the road with the 6sp and is as dependable as can be. I would not think twice about running one on a 7000 mile trip even if it had 100,000 miles on it.

I didn't realise that the Pontiac G8 was made over here and is basically the Holden Commodore/Calais.

Not the best made car - my Calais is having trim separation issues after 12 months, lucky I don't have to pay for the car...

I've been looking for the 1983 Corvette. Imagine my surprise to find it's in Bowling Green, Kentucky!

If you have not been to that museum, go. It has an amazing history there and some very significant cars.

Opening day, which was Labor Day 1994 I rolled in from the hotel in Nashville. The line to the exit started at the Tennessee border.

I had, at the time a pretty unique 91 ZR1. Stood out in the crowd. When I came out of the opening ceremonies, I could not find my car. There were so many 89-94 vettes in the fields that stretched forever. And good luck finding the WHITE one in a sea of 4000 48" high vettes.

Corvettes have been good to me and I appreciate their reliability and price. On the other hand the late model used SL's are so damn good suspension, power, and safety wise that it makes the vette irrelevant imho when used values are thrown into the equation. A used SL55 with low miles is three times the car a convertible vette of the same year is. There is three times more engineering in it as well. The primary reason the SL has such low resale is due to the Lexus crowd not being able to cope with very minor annoyances of mega high performance and due to magazine writers who think an automatic and heavy weight is just taboo in any sports car.
Bear, if you have not driven hard any of the late model SL's from AMG I suggest you give one a whirl. It covers the most ground with the least fuss. Hint: SL65's are dirt cheap! PS: Don't boost it.

My bud the GM at the local dealer keeps showing me the dealer auction lists of SLs. I keep ignoring the list with a "lead me not into temptation, I can find my way there myself" response. But as things settle this summer I might just. The 80 280SL, while fun to go get ice cream is not a great car to pack bags and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway or shoot down to the Outer Banks in. So it may either go or be relegated to shows and ice cream.
