GMC should replace Chevy's truck business. Buick can go away.
And that’s why GM’s such a mess – the economic downturn not withstanding. Buick will be retained for ‘entry level luxury’ between Chevy and Caddy; not unlike Mercury for FoMoCo. The Iconic Chevy pickup will never go away which makes GMC pointless.

Perhaps Chevy just for pickups and GMC for SUVs…

Dude, they can be had really cheap. Most have blown their original VW engines (which were junk), so they're just begging for a nice V6, souped up VW, turbo Subaru, Porsche 6, etc. Wonderful sports chassis that came with an ill-suited engine.

What do you call cheap? I got the Fiero for $250, will I find a 914 for that much and where?

I think Buick, GMC, and Mercury should all be dumped. Chevy and Cadillac should be more than enough for the US market. Each can have a range of levels that encompass the purposes served by the other brands currently. Same with Ford and Lincoln.

No, but it's also not a Fiero...big shiny bonus points right there.

The Fiero was only right the last year. That year they dumped the Chevette front suspension and the rest was already good in GT guise. Take this high mile one for example, a lower mile, window sticker, all option unit would be better but...

eBay Motors: Pontiac : Fiero (item 230339095528 end time May-03-09 15:09:06 PDT)

I wouldn't chop that one!
The reason I have mine is to actually rebuild the whole rear to be a REAL sports car. The front will be outfitted with a 88 suspension since the one I have is an 85.

^ Just buy the kid a running 928 pre 1987 era and pre S era. Great car, cheap, easy to work on realtively, and slow and safe.

That's certainly an improvement over the original, but the interior still looks like it was lifted straight from a similar year Chevy S10
